Hydrography and operation division

 

General Responsibilities

 

The Hydrography and operation division of HNHS has the following responsibilities: 

  • to organize and execute the hydrographic surveys as well as of any topographic, geodetic surveys in situ and data processing works in office related to the abovementioned survey,
  • to produce the appropriate fairsheets and to manage the updating of hydrographic or topographic diagrams and fairsheets, of the survey,
  • to monitor the well functioning, maintenance and repair of hydrographic and topographic equipment used in field
  • to monitor and execute the contribution of HNHS during the crisis or war operation periods.

In more detail the responsibilities of Hydrograhy and operation division are divided at the following departments and offices:

 

Department I (Plan and Management of Hydrographic Surveys) 

  • Compile the necessary hydrographic studies, directions and orders for surveys execution
  • Study, plan and execute the hydrographic geodetic and topographic surveys.
  • Coordinates the annual complication of the proceedings of HNHS
  • Study and assess the accuracy of the position of the navigational aids.
  • Collaborates with the Hellenic Army Geographical Service and other relevant organizations in matters concerning the responsibilities of HNHS
  • Issue/update the hydrographic and the other technical directives of the division.
  • Contribute at the issues related to the National Geophysics and Geodetic Committee.
  • Present and forward the demands, of the division in crafts, vessels, hydrographic and topographic systems, units and spares.
  • Determines the need, of the division for personnel and compile the appropriate studies.
  • Plans the personnel and systems mobilizations in order to facilitate as good as possible the execution of the surveys in field
  • Establishes, maintains and monitors the operation of the tide ganges of the HNHS and the satellite Positioning System connected to them. (Continuous Global Positioning system- CGPS)
  • Assist other Hellenic Navy’s Services at the execution of geodetic and topographic surveys in field as well as in office if availability of personnel and system exists.

Deparment II (Processing and Presentation of Hydrographic Surveys) 

  • Process satellite positioning data (CGPS) coming from the network of the permanent tide gauge stations of HNHS.
  • Produce the relevant fairsheets and performs their quality control and checks.
  • Updates the analogue hydrographic database of the division (fairsheets), with new surveys data and information.
  • Plots the bathymetric and topographic diagrams of the division
  • Create the relevant digital files from data gathered during conventional surveys in order to present and store them at the general hydrographic data base of HNHS.
  • Compiles the appropriate spreadsheets with the comments findings and results upon the conducted surveys and forward them with the relevant fairsheets to the other interested division, of HNHS for further assessment.
  • Produce the classified fairsheets for satisfying the Hellenic Navy General Staff requirements

Department III (Hydrographic Equipment Maintenace) 

  • Monitors the well functioning and mentainance of the existing hydrographic and topographic systems and units of HNHS and its hydrographic vessels.
  • Monitors the good operation and maintain the systems and units used in field.
  • Plans technical inspections, maintenance works and repairs of the hydrographic equipment.
  • Inspects, checks and repairs the geodetic equipment of the HNHS.
  • Keeps logs and books on technical inspections, repairs and maintenance works, taking place on topographic and hydrographic equipment of the division.
  • Monitors the evolution on technics and procedures of the hydrographic surveys and hydrographic and geodetic equipment of HNHS

Geodetic/Topograhic Surveys 

Department IV (Hydrographic Data Archive)

  • Manages the fairsheets, topographic diagrams as well as the relevant books and logs of the surveys, in collaboration with department II.
  • Archives all the collected in field data derived from hydrographic, topographic and geodetic surveys.
  • Undertakes all the financial studies related to the costs and fees of the hydrographic surveys according to the existing orders and directives.
  • Updates for the needs of the divisions the existing charts and maps.
  • Maintains and updates the trig list used during the geodetic campaigns.


Topographic surveys 

Department V (Support of Navy Operations)

 

                      Monitors the plans dedicated for operations that HNHS would be involved during periods of crisis or war. Submit the appropriate proposals for the updating and reissue of the above mentioned plans.
